SPARC to assist in Mapping and Geo-referencing of Forest Lands in Odisha

SPARC has been selected as the Technical Partner of Odisha Forest Department for mapping & geo-referencing of all types of forestlands in 7 Forest Circles (44 forest divisions) in Odisha.
The work shall be carried out as per Standard Operation Procedure notified by Forest & Environment Department, Odisha consequent to the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s directives to implement a GIS-based Decision Support System for forest land governance involving all types of forestlands whether notified, recorded or deemed to be forests as per provisions of Forest Conservation Act 1980.
It is proposed to prepare geo-referenced forestland maps for about 60,000 sq.km of forest lands in Odisha using state-of-the-art GIS, Remote Sensing & Differential GPS technologies over a span of 4 to 5 years. Works in Angul, Phulbani, Koraput, Jeypore, Kalahandi (North), Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Rourkela and Karanjia forest Divisions shall be taken up during FY 2019-20.
