SPARC to assist in World’s Largest Slum Titling Project in Odisha
Posted on: 10 April 2018
Sir Ratan Tata Trust has engaged SPARC as Technical Agency to assist in the technical process for assignment of land rights to slum dwellers in 9 districts of Odisha (Balasore, Nayagarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Boudh), out of the 14 districts to be taken up in the first phase.
For the first time, UAV technology is being deployed for such a large-scale project for highly accurate and fast results. The orthophotos generated through drone survey shall be integrated on a GIS platform for delineation of slum households and assessment of land rights.
The project has been initiated after the Government of Odisha passed the Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Act in October 2017, which aims to provide legal land rights to about 250,000 slum dwellers residing in more than 2,200 slums across 109 Municipalities and NACs in Odisha.
