Bhubaneswar, one of the temple cities of India has several natural and heritages water bodies of immense significance, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) under JnNURM, planned preservation of water bodies/ wet-lands for their sustainable existence. SPARC assisted BMC in identification of these water bodies using Remote Sensing, Ground Truthing, Survey of the water bodies and surrounding, preparation of site specific preservation plan involving de-weeding, de-settling, restoration of inlet, outlet, construction of embankment and VAT's, landscaping, lighting approach etc. including preparation of estimate.
The GIS based Water Body Conservation Plan helped in
- Development of a digital repository of the water bodies in Bhubaneswar with dimensions, geographical location coordinates, images for future planning and development references
- Visual interpretation and Decision Support for Developmental Planning
- Preservation plan depicting the development approach
