The assignment involved development of a GIS based Transport management System with objectives to establish rural connectivity through identification of gap-areas, rationalization of existing road permits through extension, diversion and augmentation of new permits, Authority Decision Support, Map based permit application & approval and dissemination of public transport information. The preparatory phase involved study of the existing permits, data cleaning and drawing of route charts. The development phase involved Development of the Geo-data model covering map layers, attribute datasets and network layer relationships, development of the GIS database. Preparation of the Transport Plan involved GIS analysis on frequency, timing and uncovered areas which were used as input for preparation of the transport plan through route rationalization process covering the route diversion, extension and re-routing options. The GIS database developed in the above process was integrated in a Web GIS based Application Software to facilitate map based decision support, map based online permit management (including permit application and approval), public transport information system. The system is scalable to be integrated with the GPS based Vehicle Tracking System as well as with the Public Information Boards for dissemination of up-to-the-minute bus status information.
