DGPS survey and GIS mapping for treatment planning of degraded forest areas under JICA assisted OFSDP Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project (OFSDP) aims to restore/ rejuvenate degraded forests through peoples participation in Joint Forest Management (JFM) mode The assignment involved preparation of micro-planning inputs through DGPS survey, Remote Sensing assessments and GIS mapping for about 700 such sites spread across 4 forest Divisions in Odisha. DGPS survey of demarcated boundaries of treatment areas assigned to Vana Samraksana Samitis (VSS), survey and mapping of land use, vegetation, topography, soil, leading to preparation of site wise reports and maps for micro planning formed part of the assignment.
The Forestry Micro planning through GIS/DGPS helped in
- Precise identification of degraded forest area
- Preparation of microplan keeping in view the available forest resources location and geography of the village settlement
- Development of digital repository for future reference/ forestry management
