Case Summary

Mahanadi Coalfield Limited a Navratna organization of the Government of India, has coal blocks in the Talcher and Jharsuguda area in Odisha. The assignment involved preparation of the Geo-referenced map involved identification & establishment of primary control points (PCP) along the slurry pipe line with reference to the ORSAC known points (SOI national grid), identification of the secondary control points and DGPS observations of the permanent ground features for the revenue cadastral maps involved in the project. Geo-referencing of the revenue cadastral maps for delineation of the forest land followed by staking-out and demarcation of the forest boundary through RTK based DGPS devices. The outcome of the survey was used to generate the slurry pipeline alignment map on a cadastral base showing the forest land involved along with the forest boundary coordinates.

The GIS/DGPS based geo-referencing of the forest land in the Coal block helped in

  • Delineation of the forest land involved in the Coal block along with identification of the change point coordinates of the forest land within the coal block
  • Compliance to the MoEF for approval
