Case Summary

Hydrological Study for Allocation Water for 12 MTPA Steel Plant of ArcelorMittal in Odisha, India. A MoU was signed between Govt. of Odisha and ArcelorMittal India Ltd (AMIL) to establish a 12 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant at Keonjhar district of Odisha. There will be a captive power plant of 1500 MW capacity integrated with the steel plant. The annual makeup water requirement for the plant was assessed is 107 Mm3. However provision shall be kept for drawing water from source to the extent of 125 Mm3 annually. The Govt. of Odisha was agreed to allocate the water from river Baitarani or any other source within Keonjhar district. M.N. Dastur & Company Ltd. had engaged in preparation of the DPR of the Steel Plant. SPARC assisted M. N. Dastur & Co in preparation of the Hydrological Study Report on the basis of which State Water Allocation committee would allocate water for the industry.

Water intake feasibility study helped in

  • Assessment of water source potential for the proposed steel and power plant
  • Forms a platform for topographic survey of proposed water pipeline alignment
