Case Summary
One of the major responsibilities of the Women & Child Development department is to ensure proper care and development of the children through proper implementation of ICDS programs in Anganwadi centres throughout the state. Many of the villages in the rural areas do not have appropriate Anganwadi centres/ services. Identification of such villages is a major challenge for the authorities. A GIS based approach was undertaken to map the revenue villages in the state tagged with the existing anganwadi centers to identify the un-served, semi-served villages. The anganwadi details were also tagged to the secondary data sources to facilitate generation of thematic maps to serve as decision support tool for the authorities
Mapping of Anganwadi Centres helped in
- Identification of un-served villages
- Tagging of small un-served villages with the surrounding villages with Anganwadi Centres
- Proposal for establishment of new Anganwadi Centres
